THE ARTIST

Who is Mario, the artist behind Mario Diaz Art

Mario was born on December 17th, 1952 in a middle class neighborhood in the city of Buenos Aires in Argentina. From a very young age he stood out for his creative abilities, starting with drawing. When he was 7 years old his teacher talked to his mother because she was amazed by his drawing ability.

Mario remembers spending most of the day drawing, even in class, so he had some problems at school. He liked to draw comic book characters such as Batman or those that appeared in Satiricon magazine, considered the Argentine publication that revolutionized graphic humor in that country.

His father was also amazed with his artistic ability, so when he turned 8 years old he gave him a drawing board like the one used by architects, which he made to Mario’s size with the help of his co-workers. On this page you can see a black and white photograph of Mario, smiling with his new board.

Mario studied Fine Arts at the Raggio Technical School and the Panamerican School of Art in Buenos Aire and at only16 years old began to work as an assistant in the Art Room of the Pueyrredón Advertising Agency because he needed to help his family financially.

Unfortunately due to the mandatory Military Service he needed to give up this work. Lately he started working at Walter Thompson Advertising Agency as a draftsman. He was there for 8 months and although he was very young he decided to quit and set up his own advertising agency. He worked there for 4 years and was asked to head the drawing department of an advertising agency dedicated to medical literature produced for pharmaceutical laboratories.

He managed this agency with a partner for 20 years until the great economic crisis of the year 2000 in Argentina caused the agency to close and Mario began to devote himself to his second activity and passion: fishing. For several years he combined his work as a publicist with the assembly of fishing rods to save money and buy his first house. You can see more of this second passion at www.flyfishingartisan.com

The collection of paintings with fishes expresses his passion for fishing and inspirations about life itself, his personal situation and his great capacity for observation.

His mind pays more attention to images than to words, so in his environment we are amazed when he sees details that others do not.

Now in Madrid, where his daughter has lived for years, he has set up an art workshop and is dedicated to creating new collections from recycled materials. For him, words are superfluous, he expresses himself through art.
