Named as a river in Patagonia in Argentina, of Mapuche origin, with the meaning of “transparent” or “limpid”. The legend said that Limay and Neuquén were the sons of two important “caciques” chiefs of the area, and they were inseparable friends. However, one afternoon in the forest they found a beautiful Mapuche woman with dark hair and big brown eyes called Raihué (new flower). They both fell deeply in love and couldn’t help but compete to win her over. The town shaman proposed a test: the first to obtain a snail so that Raihué could hear the roar of the sea for the first time would obtain his love. After consulting the gods, they decided to turn the boys into rivers to make their task easier: Nequén would flow from the North through the myrtle forests, while Limay would flow through the valleys and mountains from the South.
